Speakeasies, Hallmark Movies, and REVENGE: Jukebox has new stretch goal playsets🎙️ 💌 🗡️
The Jukebox Journal (Devlog)
We’re in the last week and a half of the Kickstarter, and I’ve just announced some new playset writers: C.J. Linton, Erin Roberts, and Ezakur!
Here’s a little more about the new playsets…
Spirit and Proof
It’s the height of the roaring twenties, and it feels like the music will never stop…until it does. After the sudden demise of the Cerulean Club’s beloved owner, his friends and family must come together to uncover the mystery of his death and save the speakeasy.
Setlist Inspiration: 1920s Jazz and Blues, Showtunes, Hip Hop
Stop (In The Name of Love)
Your shop is the heart of the neighborhood, but try telling that to the big-shot business exec intent on shutting you down. Luckily, your quirky staff has suckered them into a bet: prove that love is real and you can keep your lease – how hard could that be?
Setlist Inspiration: Soul Music, Love Songs, Singer/Songwriters
Revenge Is Best Served Sung
A trusted friend sold your group of petite bourgeoisie rebels out for a life of riches, leaving you destitute on the streets of nineteenth-century Europe. Now that this villain lives unsuspecting in aristocratic luxury, it’s the perfect time to plot revenge and take them down—No matter the cost.
Setlist Inspiration: Breakup Songs, Protest Songs, Tragic Musicals
There is also a new art stretch goal for more internal art, which will be announced on Friday 2/2 along with a blogpost here, all about Lia and the process of commissioning the Jukebox cover art.
As a little teaser, this is the image we're using as inspiration for the upcoming Jukebox internal art stretch goal:
Jukebox Designer Interviews
Finally, I’m doing a series of mini-interviews for the Jukebox playset writers. First up are interviews for Brooke, Basil, and Ru!
🌴LOST IN PARADISE 🌴
Lost in Paradise Playlist
When a disastrous plane crash leaves you stranded on a deserted island, you must find a way to survive or escape. But every castaway has a secret, and so does the island…
Name: Brooke Whitney
Favorite Musical: Phantom of the Opera
Go-to Karaoke Banger: Part of Your World
Most meaningful writing: I wrote an adventure called Dragon of the Endless Dark for Crucible Magazine. This was my fourth published work and it showed a lot of growth. The editors of the magazine hired talented artists to bring my vision to life, and seeing the NPCs and maps drawn to accompany my story was exceptionally exciting. It was my goal to bring diversity and a unique perspective to the magazine, and I achieved that. It’ll always mean a lot to me, and I hope it’ll one day be available for purchase again!
Why this playset: I’m Native Hawaiian and I really wanted to incorporate the music my family loved listening to when I was growing up. I’m happy to spotlight an island setting, as you don’t see them very often in roleplaying games. Maybe you’re lost, but maybe it’s not all that bad!

🌩️ FABULA EX FATA 🌩️
Fabula Ex Fata Playlist
Your quest was ordered by the gods but now your heroic deeds have been stained by ignoble hubris. Atonement is possible, but only the Chorus knows when the curtain falls…
Name: Basil Wright
Favorite Musical: Legally Blonde
Go-to Karaoke Banger: Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind, & Fire
Most meaningful writing: It’s not out yet, but getting to create some really mystically weird places in St. Augustine, Florida for Backwards Tabletop’s Backchannels was super fun and a great way to flex my Florida native skills.
Why this playset: A secret fact about me is that I’m low key high key fixated on the concept of ὕβρις (hubris) in the Ancient Greek sense. I wrote an entire paper in grad school about it, to the point that my professor told me I had actually written too much about it, haha! So a chance to craft something that focuses on both hubris and the traditional Greek Chorus was too much of an opportunity to pass up!

When you and your childhood friends forged a bond at the neighborhood Diwali festival, it felt like a quirky and imperfect second home. Now, Sitaara Corporation aims to take over and commercialize the neighborhood. It’s up to you and your friends to keep the festival local—FIGHT THE POWER!
Name: Charu Chandni Patel (or Ru)
Favorite Musical: Hairspray
Go-to Karaoke Banger: NSync - I Want You Back or Spice Girls - Wannabe
Most meaningful writing: The Vale of Shifting Glass is the hollow I wrote for the Babes in the Wood: All Hollows EP. I felt like I really found my voice in this project and was able to blend it well with Babes in the Wood’s style. I really enjoyed the material and tone of the game and was excited to come up with shenanigans for players to get into. Overall, my writing and style was the most consistent and clear in this project and helped me to see how I had evolved as a writer from my first project.
Why this playset: I wanted to showcase the bollywood that I grew up on from the 80s and 90s and tie it to movies like Wet Hot Summer and the Goonies. I really enjoy pairing up Indian themes and elements in genres that they aren’t always expected to be in. Also I really love teen movies and how the story elements can get really absurd while still dealing with heavy topics and it lets players get really bombastic with their storytelling.
